I am reluctant to blogg, but I am required to for a graduate level course. So, here are my thoughts about blogging.
I understand that blogging allows anyone to share their thoughts and opinions without the benefit of a publisher or editor. However, I think that editors play an important role in that they prevent the dissemination of false information. For example, I recently noticed a link in an article from a reputable news source. When I clicked on the link, rather than lead me to another reputable source, I was astounded to discover that the link was to a blog site. The author of this site offered no academic credentials in the field of which he or she was writing. I recognize that blogging can be a convenient way to share one's opinions. However, I think that reputable organizations should do some fact checking of the references they provide. As a discerning reader, I am especially critical of the material I find on cyberspace today. And therefore, I prefer to get my information from reputable sources that provide academic fact rather that unsubstantiated opinion.
